Before and after photos show the incredible transformation of a neglected dog which 'changed colour' after being rescued.

Oliver, a Shih Tzu/terrier cross, was found callously dumped outside Birmingham Dogs Home's Wolverhampton rescue centre last month. The poor pooch was discovered freezing cold, petrified and badly neglected with long, matted fur which was seemingly black and dark-brown.

But staff were left stunned when he emerged from a much-needed bath and groom, which took several hours, with a fluffy golden coat. Oliver has since been provided with around-the-clock care and is now looking for a new home after making a remarkable recovery.

Fi Harrison, from Birmingham Dogs Home charity, said:  "It was clear that he had been neglected for many months and his matted, filthy coat was causing him a lot of discomfort and stress. We were amazed to see he had a much lighter coloured coat when all of the dirt was finally washed away.

"Over the last few weeks this brave little lad has been receiving round the clock care from our dedicated team and fantastic support from our amazing supporters who have been donating to our charity to help us fund his care.

"His personality has transformed along with his appearance as he has learnt to trust his carers and changed from being a very nervous and scared boy to a very loving, happy chap who is a true delight to be around. We are hoping he will be adopted very soon."

A post on their Facebook page added: "He is very loving and gives us the biggest smile when we greet him!  He is still very nervous, which is to be expected considering what he has been through, but he is a true delight to be around. He is now ready to start looking for his loving new home."
