Two Pakistani boxers ‘missing’ after the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

After 12 members of the Sri Lankan team went missing in Birmingham, two Pakistani boxers were also reported to be missing after the Commonwealth Games.
Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) secretary Nasir Tang told the Press Trust of India two of the boxers disappered a few hours before the team was supposed to leave for Islamabad.

Hide AdThe Commonwealth Games 2022 ended in Birmingham on 8 August. Many of the international teams left this week, including the remaining members of the Sri Lanka team.
The Pakistani boxers’ travel documents, including passports, are not with them as the federation officials who were with them have it. The team management reportedly informed the Pakistan High Commission in the UK and relevant authorities in London.


Since then, the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has formed an investigation committee.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson, said: “We’ve been made aware that two members of the Pakistani Commonwealth Games delegation – men aged 22 and 25 – have been reported missing. The report was made to us on Tuesday (9 August) and we are making enquiries, including CCTV work, to ensure they are safe and well.”

Hide AdThe country didn’t win any medals in the boxing matches of the Commonwealth Games. However, it did win eight medals, including two gold.
This is not the first Pakistani athlete to go missing at an international sporting event. National swimmer, Faizan Akbar, disappeared from the FINA World Championships in Hungary. He went AWOL hours after reaching Budapest.
The Pakistan Sports Board and the Pakistan High Commission in London have been contacted for their response.
