Collaborators Matt Arnold and Eve Green, both esteemed bartenders from Edgbaston and Grain & Glass, joined forces to establish this venue in 2022, and within a year, it has firmly secured its place at the pinnacle.
The bar offers an enticing menu of 12 meticulously crafted cocktails, thoughtfully categorised into Fruity, Savoury, Classic, and Sparkling options. Notable highlights include the Nectarine Bellini, the Salt & Rye, and the playful Adult Ribena. Passing Fancies also boasts a curated selection of wines from around the world.
The bar’s cosy and inviting atmosphere, with 54 covers, evokes the feeling of being in “the kitchen at a house party.” The name itself reflects the trio’s commitment to adaptability, as they regularly update the menu and avoid rigid themes. Alongside the delightful drinks, guests can savour a variety of tasty plates, such as arancini, cheese boards, and charcuterie.
Situated in Digbeth’s iconic Custard Factory, Passing Fancies brings “approachable luxury” to Birmingham’s hip neighbourhood. Nestled in the heart of Stirchley, Birmingham, Couch has steadily climbed the ranks since its debut on the list in 2022, initially claiming the 37th spot. Now, it proudly stands among the top 4.
What truly sets Couch apart is its meticulously crafted cocktails, each drawing inspiration from iconic films spanning various genres and eras. Served in elegant glassware and garnished with fresh produce, these libations pay homage to classics like A Bronx Tale, The Godfather, and The Big Lebowski.
But it’s not just about the drinks; it’s about the entire experience. Couch operates on a walk-in basis, embodying the welcoming vibe of most neighbourhood bars. Since its opening in September 2021, this establishment has quickly become a favourite among both locals and visitors. Situated on Pinfold Street, it’s conveniently close to New Street Station and the Bullring Shopping Centre.
The bar exudes a timeless and sophisticated ambiance, featuring plush leather sofas, wooden tables, and elegant brass accents. Their meticulously crafted cocktails are made with high-quality ingredients, innovative techniques, and a dash of flair. Notable concoctions include the Rum Rum Plum, Irish Coffee, and Tom Collins.
