The time is fast approaching where we get to have a bit of a break from the daily grind and spend some time with our loved ones over the festive season.

Nothing beats a good old knees up so I'm out here today on the streets of Birmingham city centre to hear about people's favourite Christmas parties.

Marion, who was with her partner David told us: "The best Christmas party ever is always at my house and I have perhaps about 13, 14 people over and we just have a lot of fun. It's a big family do. Without being charitable we do invite the odd person who doesn't have anywhere to go, friends - perhaps friends of friends - so you know, it's good to have a big table at Christmas.“

Avery said: “I think the best Christmas party I've ever been to was when I was staying with my grandparents and we went to go visit my uncle Stephen in London we got to go watch the big light switch on and although I had to look after my little baby cousin it was so cool getting to hang out with all the grown-ups and actually getting to participate in the Christmas party and the festivities and all the traditions that usually you wouldn't have been allowed to participate in. I think that a lot of it is because we love spending time around our families and Christmas is one of those few occasions where families are able to come together.“

Ismail said: “I don't celebrate Christmas myself but I do love the festive season, all the lights and sort of the environment and everything - everyone coming together. I do find it interesting how it's strayed from its religious founding. It's become much more of a secular festivity as opposed to a Christian one but I certainly respect its heritage and the fact that it has cemented itself as a holiday in sort of the Western culture.“

Lily said: "It's all about the company, it's all who you spend it with, you know everyone's in high spirits you don't really want anyone who sat there being miserable because Christmas is all about the good times.”
