Birmingham’s B15 postcode district is the UK’s Burglary Hotspot with 49.77 claims per 1,000 quotes, according to the latest data by Money Supermarket.

The BT23 postcode district in County Down, Northern Ireland had the lowest burglary rate with just 0.69 for every 1,000 quotes

London, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol, and Sheffield all had multiple postcodes ranked among the top 50 burglary hotspots.

With 49.77 claims for every 1,000 quotes, the Birmingham postcode district of B15, which covers Edgbaston, is the UK’s burglary hotspot.

With both the University of Birmingham and Birmingham City University having campuses in the B15 area, a high student population is likely a contributing factor to the high burglary rate.

Students often go home for Christmas, Easter and summer, and unoccupied houses are prime targets for would-be burglars. Birmingham postcodes accounted for 10 per cent of the UK’s burglary hotspots with five appearances in the top 50, while London, Leeds, Bristol, and Sheffield also had multiple appearances.

Birmingham postcodes accounted for 10 per cent of the UK’s burglary hotspots with five appearances in the top 50, while London, Leeds, Bristol, and Sheffield also had multiple appearances.

In second place across the UK was the B94 postcode of Olton, Solihull, whereas the B20 postcode of Birchfield, Handsworth Wood and Perry Barr came in 18th place of the top 50 hotspot list.

Harborne, with B17 postcode, was in 35th place whereas Walsall and Wythall also featured on the top 50 list.

The study analysed millions of home insurance quotes from MoneySuperMarket Home Insurance customers to find the UK postcode areas with the highest and lowest rates of burglary claims since 2021.
