Man charged after posing as car buyer and stealing vehicles while on test drives in and around Birmingham

A Birmingham resident previously arrested on suspicion of stealing a dozen cars after they were taken for test drives across the region has been charged. He posed as a customer before stealing the cars from unsuspecting owners.

He was arrested from Hall Green in Birmingham on Thursday ( January 19) by West Midlands Police’ specialist Vehicle Taskforce. They had been carrying out extensive enquiries since December.

A 22-year-old man was charged with eight counts of theft of motor vehicles, two counts of fraud and blackmail. He was further charged with drugs and weapon offences. The car he stole were advertised for sale. He had posed as a customer and taken them from unsuspecting owners either during, or following, test drives across Birmingham, Solihull and Wolverhampton.
