Birmingham and Sandwell Mela will take place this week - a number of road closures will be in place on both days of the event

The biggest South Asian music festival in Europe is coming back to Birmingham.

The Birmingham and Sandwell Mela will bring two days of great music, fun fair, food, and a lot more in a family-friendly environment. This year, the excitement is all the more real for South Asian music fans as the mela brings some of the biggest names from Bollywood - the Hindi film industry in Mumbai - and Lollywood - Pakistan’s film industry.

The event, which is taking place in Victoria Park in Smethwick, is the biggest South Asian music festival in Europe. It’s going to a colourful affair with bhangra, dhol, and the many different flavours of the Indian subcontinent.

Road closures in place for event

The Mela takes place this Saturday 22 July and Sunday July 23. A number of road closures will be in place around the park for the event with Suffrage Street and Park Retreat will be closed both days between 6am and 10pm.

In order to ensure that residents are able to gain access throughout the duration of the event the following roads will be closed between 7am and 10pm over the two days.

  • Amity Close, Ballot Street, Barnstable Road, Corbett Street, Croxall Way
  • Dawlish Road, Exeter Road, Jordan Close, Norma Rose Close, Pool Road
  • Pritchard Close, Ron Davies Close, Tiverton Road, Victoria Avenue and Victoria Park Road (Access will be allowed with passes only)

There will be no diversion routes signed. In addition to the road closure parking will be prohibited on the park side of Brook Street and Price Street. Emergency Services will be allowed access as usual. You can read more details about the event and the line up, here.
