Police have charged two people in connection with disorder in Alum Rock, Birmingham.

Officers were called to reports of gunshots being fired on Alum Rock Road at around 3.15am on July 1. Wasim Akeel, of Sarehole Road in Moseley, has been charged with possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Farhat Saleem, of Haddon Road in Maidenhead, has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and with assisting an offender.

The two men, both aged 29-year-old, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court yesterday (October 5). Akeel has been remanded in custody and Saleem has been released on bail. Both will appear before Birmingham Crown Court on November 2, 2023.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We’re committed to removing guns from our streets. We’re running Operation Target, which sees officers using local intelligence, seizing goods, carrying out warrants and targeting offenders as part of our ongoing crackdown against serious and organised crime.”
