Birmingham 2022 tickets - last chance to secure your seat at the Commonwealth Games

It is the biggest event that Birmingham has ever staged - and tickets to the Commonwealth Games 2022 are being snapped up.

Entering the ticket ballot is the best way you can guarantee that you will get a seat at the huge multi-sport event.

This ballot is due to close at 8pm on Thursday September 30.

How does the Commonwealth Games ticket ballot work and where do I enter?

The ballot is open to everyone - residents who live in and around the West Midlands were previously invited to apply for tickets in an earlier ballot.

Applicants will need to create an account and select the sports and sessions they wish to attend.

Only one application can be submitted per household but within the application multiple session tickets can be applied for, with more information available on the ticket page.

Those successful will be notified within 30 days after the closure of the ballot and payment will be taken in full within 72 hours of the email being sent by Games organisers.

Tickets start from £8 for under 16s and £15 for adults.

Will there be any other opportunities to buy tickets if I miss the ballot deadline?

Birmingham 2022 organisers will put tickets on general sale ahead of the Commonwealth Games starting. No firm date has been set for this yet.

Entering the ballot is the best way to secure your seat at the event and you can apply to see the specific session that you are most interested in. It is recommended as the best way to make sure you get to see the biggest event ever hosted by Birmingham.

What is happening at the Commonwealth Games?

Thousands of athletes from across the 72 nations and territories of the Commonwealth will be competing in 286 sessions across 19 sports over 11 days from July 28.

The Games sees the best athletes from countries in the Commonwealth compete in an international multi-sport spectacle seen as a celebration of the union.

Olympic 1500m silver medallist, Laura Muir, and double Paralympic gold  medallist, Kadeena Cox, are among the latest athletes to confirm they want to take part. The pair visited Alexander Stadium to see the progress being made with the redevelopment.

Laura said: “It provides me with another opportunity to represent Scotland and it will mean coming  back to compete in a city where I was fortunate enough to have won silver and bronze medals  at the World Indoor Championships at Arena Birmingham three years ago. I’d love to win gold  for Scotland next summer.”

Kadeena Cox, who had to withdraw from the Gold Coast edition of the Games in 2018 because  of injury, will be targeting the T38 100m at Birmingham 2022. She said: “What I love about the Commonwealth Games is that all of the Para sports are integrated into  the main sports programme, so we get to come together as one big team competing on the  same stage.

“I know Team England will be looking to win as many medals as possible at this  home Games, and with a noisy, passionate crowd to inspire us once more, I’m sure the  atmosphere will be fantastic.”

Held every four years, the Games have been held in Manchester, England, in Melbourne, Australia, in Delhi, India, in Glasgow, Scotland and the Gold Coast, Australia since 2002.

The closure of the ballot comes a week ahead of The Queen’s Baton Relay beginning - the design and route have been unveiled.

The Queen’s will initiate the relay at Buckingham Palace next Thursday (October 7). It will spend 294 days travelling 90,000 miles across the Commonwealth, including stops in Kenya, Tuvalu and New Zealand.
