A fish and chip shop which has been ranked as the best in Birmingham is up for sale.

Dads Lane Fish Bar & Restaurant in Stirchley is the highest rated chippy in Birmingham on TripAdvisor, but the popular takeaway has gone up for sale.

The business on Dads Lane is being advertised on the Meridian Business Sales Ltd and Zoopla websites. It’s been described on the Prime Location website as a ‘Long established restaurant & takeaway’ with ‘exceptional reputation and online reviews’, and ‘fantastic turnover with scope to increase’.

It also says training will be provided to new owners. The chip shop has a range of great reviews online, including on Google. In a five star review, one customer wrote: “Best chippy in Birmingham. There are lots of staff so even with long queues due to the popularity of this fish and chip restaurant you always get served hot and fresh food in minutes. Batter is a secret recipe, golden and crispy. The family vibe is something that makes the place 5*. Greek Cypriot owners so they understand their produce more than all the pop up here today gone tomorrows. They’ve been running this place since the 1980s....”

Another Google review, read: “Lovely meals of quality and great staff for customer service.” Another read: “Probably the best fish and chips in Brum. The chips were perfect and the curry sauce was delicious. Friendly staff and nice seating area. Recommended!”

The news comes at a time when many fish and chip shops are under threat amid rising food prices as the Russia-Ukraine war continues, rocketing inflation and pricey fuel costs. The situation has led to predictions from chippy trade body the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) that a third of the country’s fish and chips shops could close if things continue in this vein.

Dads Lane chippy is currently on the market for £679,000.
