Instead, The Bear Tavern on Bearwood Road, is set to undergo an extensive six figure refurbishment from Monday, January 29 after it closes its doors and calls last orders - for now! The pub is a well known landmark in the area and renowned for its iconic bear adornments above the door and around the clock tower.

The Bear has built up a reputation for delicious food and drinks over recent times and is popular with sports fans, showing BT Sport & Sky Sports every week. A spokesperson for Greene King told BirminghamWorld: “The Bear pub on Bearwood Road, in Smethwick, is closing its doors for a short period while it undertakes a six-figure investment from the 29 January.

“The Bear will reopen to the public in late-February, following a significant renovation to the pub both internally and externally.”
