An exclusive, glitzy red-carpet preview event is being held to celebrate the start of a new BBC high school drama based in the West Midlands - and tickets for the public are up for grabs.

Aimed at a young teen audience Phoenix Rise is a coming-of-age drama with a difference - starring two Brummie stars. The series, coming to BBC i-player soon, tells the story of a group of six diverse teenagers taking their first tentative steps back into mainstream education following exclusion.

Phoenix Rise is the opportunity for these six misfit heroes to prove that sometimes being an outsider means belonging to the best club of all, as their unlikely friendships bond them and fuel their determination not to be side-lined. The optimism and fun of teen life is set against the challenges they face in and out of the classroom.

The event will be attended by many of the cast, including up-and-coming actors Alex Draper, cast as Billy; Lauren Corah, who plays Summer; Jayden Hanley, from Birmingham, who is Darcy; and Jessal Kullar-Bell who takes on the role of Cassidy. They will all also be taking part in a special Q&A session after the first two episodes have been screened.

The series also stars Birmingham actress, Emmanuella Martins, who plays Bee (older sister to Leila who is one of the ‘boiler room six’). Filming for the series started last summer at multiple locations in and around Coventry, including former secondary school, Woodlands Academy.

The red carpet event will be held at Finham Park 2 secondary school in Coventry on Tuesday 14 March. To be in with a chance of attending this exclusive screening, members of the public can simply apply for free tickets via BBC Shows & Tours. Stuart Thomas, Head of the Midlands for BBC England, said: “We are really excited to see a new drama set in the West Midlands which puts our young people and their lives at the heart of its story.

“The West Midlands makes up an incredibly diverse and creative region and it’s fantastic that our young people will be able to see their city depicted on screen and I can’t wait to put the spotlight back on Coventry.”

Phoenix Rise is produced by BBC Studios Kids & Family Productions, and distributed by Sinking Ship Entertainment. It will be released on BBC iPlayer Tuesday 21 March and on BBC Three later.

To apply for tickets for this exclusive screening, head to the BBC Shows and Tours website. The ticket ballot will close on Tuesday 7 March at midnight.
