Hammond, 48, was announced as a co-host on the show this month. She was a participant on the show for its Stand Up 2 Cancer series 3, and even during her short stint then had people laughing.

And, like the viewers, Prue can’t wait to have Hammond on her team having worked with three men - Matt Lucas, Paul Hollywood and Noel Fielding - for several seasons. Hammond will be replacing Lucas, who announced his departure in 2022.

What Prue Leith said about Alison Hammond joining GBBO

Prue, an award-winning restaurateur, chef, and television presenter/broadcaster, told Metro: “I think it’ll be fantastic, not only because of her character and her personality, but I like the fact she’s a woman.

“I love Matt Lucas and I’m sure we’ll be friends for life, but the fact is, when there were three men and me, because there were numbers of them, they just got sillier and sillier and I never understand the jokes.

“They can go into hysterics about the word sausage. They’re like four years olds. So, I’m looking forward to having a woman around.”

The Great British Bake Off will return to Channel 4 in the autumn, but you can watch Hammond tomorrow (March 30) when she will be a guest on Late Night Lycett on its first episode.

The show will be broadcast live from The Bond in Fazeley Street in Digbeth. Guests for the first episode include Joanna Lumley, Birmingham presenter Hammond and comedian Katherine Ryan.
