Brummie star Alison Hammond has hit the headlines - but not due to her successful TV career which has gone from strength to strength.

There have been claims that the celebrity, who has been named as the latest host of Great British Bake Off, has been blackmailed. West Midlands Police have arrested a man following the allegations and they said this morning (Sunday, March 26) that he remains in custody.

A spokesperson for WMP told BirminghamWorld: “A 36-year-old man has been arrested from an address in Warwickshire this evening on suspicion of blackmail against a woman in her 40s. He remains in custody for questioning.”

Alison came to prominence as a contestant on the third series of Big Brother in 2002. She was promoted to co-presenter of This Morning in 2020, appearing alongside Dermot O’Leary on Fridays.

There have also been appearances on I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! in 2010 and Strictly Come Dancing in 2014. Last week she was announced as the new co-host of The Great British Bake Off, replacing Matt Lucas. She also appeared alongside actor Richard E Grant to host the 2023 Baftas.
