African painted dog at Dudley Zoo sadly passes away after diagnosed with aggressive cancer
An African painted dog at Dudley Zoo has sadly passed away.
Dudley Zoo has shared the sad news today (Thursday 21 May) that an African painted dog has passed away.
The male African painted dog, called Bruce, was put to sleep earlier today after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.
The Zoo said that over recent days, the six-year-old had been experiencing nose bleeds and despite veterinary treatment, further investigations revealed a malignant tumour in his nose.

The Zoo added: “With his welfare and quality of life our utmost priority, the kindest decision was to euthanise Bruce to prevent the cancer spreading further.”
The African painted dog Bruce had arrived at Dudley Zoo a year ago from Switzerland, with his six-year-old brother, Walter, as part of a European breeding programme.
They formed the Zoo’s first painted dog breeding pack alongside three-year-old female, Isobel.
The Zoo said: “Our dedicated carnivore team will be closely monitoring Isabel and Walter, as they readjust to the new hierarchy.”
