Acocks Green and Solihull shops targeted by armed robber

Police arrested a suspected armed robber after three Solihull stores were targeted on Saturday afternoon (5 March) and another two stores in Acocks Green on Monday morning (7 March).

Officers were called to Solihull on Saturday after a man, armed with a handgun, demanded money at F. Hinds Jewellers, Morrisons and Robert Dyas between 4.30pm and 5pm.

A small amount of cash was taken from a till at Robert Dyas, but nothing was taken from the other two stores.

The alarm was raised again this morning when police believe the same man, attempted to rob two more stores in Acocks Green. The force were alerted to the incidents at Big Johns, Yardley Road and Select Express on Warwick Road at around 2am yesterday.

A gun has been recovered from Big Johns.

Armed police responded and after reviewing CCTV from the incidents the force believes the same man was responsible for all five incidents.

A 45-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of this morning on suspicion of aggravated burglary. He remains in custody while our enquiries continue.
