There was traffic chaos this morning (Tuesday, November 21) after a white coloured Golf was abandoned on the A38M Aston Expressway.

Drivers were forced to drive around the vehicle left in the middle lane with long delays built up in the area between Junction 6 at the A38M for Birmingham and Junction 5 around 5.45am.

Central Motorway Police were called and a spokesperson said: "To the owner of this Golf. We have your car after you left it abandoned in the middle lane of A38M.

"Please contact us and explain why you walked away and made no effort to call the police. Caused unnecessary congestion and putting our own lives at risk standing in the middle of a motorway."

However, several people have queried why the driver abandoned their car and have raised concerns for their welfare. Posting on X, formerly Twitter, one person said: “This is an awful post from a professional organisation. For all we know the owner could have had a serious health episode, physical or mental. You clearly will be able to find the owner/find out who they are as you are the Police. Stop posting stuff for likes.”

Another commented: “Let's all hope the car broke down and not the driver. Your post seems a bit harsh until you determine the reasons, I hope you've had a sweep of the area with a drone to ensure there isn't something awful occurring here?”
