The Queen’s Baton Relay completed its journey on Thursday (28 July)

After travelling through 72 Commonwealth nations and territories across the globe, it arrived back in Birmingham on Wednesday, where it was created in the Jewellery Quarter.

After arriving in the West Midlands at the start of the week, the baton has travelled through the region, including through Solihull and Sandwell, before making its way into the Host City on Wednesday (27 July). On Thursday, the baton was presented at Birmingham Children’s Hospital - celebrating the efforts of the NHS locally -before weaving its way through a number of neighbourhoods taking in more parks and open spaces as well as the likes of the Jewellery Quarter.

Later on in the afternoon it passed through landmarks including the Nishkam Centre on the Soho Road,as well as Sutton Coldfield town centre and Aston Villa FC’s home Villa Park before it arrived at Aston Hall. The baton will complete its journey at the Alexander Stadium for the opening cermony on Thursday evening.
