Millions of people have attended the event over the years, and residents and visitors from far and wide are expected to travel to the heart of the city once again to indulge in the festivities at the market as it returns for its 19th year.

The Birmingham event is the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany or Austria, and this year organisers are looking to recruit more than 200 people to support its stalls when it returns to the city centre next month.

What roles are available?

The organsiers are looking to fill a range of customer-facing and behind the scenes roles ranging from bar staff, catering assistants and salespeople on gift stalls, to kitchen assistants and porters.

As in previous years there are a mix of part-time and full-time roles working alongside the German stallholders and their core team of staff with pay starting from £9 per hour.

A statement from the organisers on the market’s website, says: “We are recruiting for both full and part time positions, and while previous experience is a plus, it isn’t a requirement as training will be given. So, whatever kind of role or hours you are looking for, we can find a position that fits you.

“We are looking for Bar Staff to work on our busy stalls serving authentic German beers and Glühwein. If you’re friendly and good at engaging with the public, we would like to hear from you!

“We are also looking for Catering Assistants, across a wide range of stalls. From Bratwurst to chocolate covered fruit, and from Bratkartoffeln to Strudel, if you like serving up a feast, this could be the role for you.

“Ever dreamed you were a kid in a candy store – well you could be a Stall Assistant on one of our stalls selling herbal sweets, Schockoküsse or other sweet treats. Just some of the Christmas goodies on offer on our stalls.

“Finally, if you would prefer to help us run things behind the scenes, there are also positions for you. Roles such as Kitchen Assistants and Kitchen Porters are vital to keeping the market running, so we are sure that whoever you are, there will be a role that suits you.”

How can I apply?

Previously the event’s organisers – Frankfurt Christmas Market Ltd – have taken on temporary local workers, but for the first time people will be able to apply online under the job vacancies section.

Applications for all vacancies opened today (5 October 2021) on the market’s official website – www.bfcm.co.uk

Interviews are due to take place the week commencing 1 November, for an immediate start when the market opens on 4 November.
