Until recent years it would have been an understatement to say Birmingham was a city that didn’t shout loudly about itself. Perhaps modesty was a fundamental part of it’s charm - but awareness of what the city offers is unavoidable now, so we ask Brummies what they love, and how they think the city could improve.

As you will see from the comments below, there is clearly a lot of love for Birrmingham. But we’d be lying to ourselves if we said we didn’t like a bit of a whinge in the West Midlands. So what do the people here think would make the region a better place?

Terry says: “I love Birmingham. It’s a great city. There’s a really good vibe about it. Great shops, great places to eat. It’s been developing really well lately. People are amazing as well. It’s just - as I said - it’s got real good buzz about it. So yeah, I love Birmingham.”

Joy says: “I like the multicultural feel of it when you come into the city and you see lots of different nationalities and hear different languages. Yeah, that’s good. I also like the fact that there’s a wealth of shops. I don’t come in very often and I’ve just come in today because I know I can visit the shops I need to get to”

Leonara says: “I think that could be more touristic attractions because obviously you don’t see a lot of tourists in Birmingham. The only thing that we kind of have is the museum gallery. Everyone knows Birmingham mainly because of Peaky Blinders or because of the Bull Ring. I think we could get known for better things.”
