Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Netflix documentary series: 9 photos of the couple in Birmingham

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have received an award for taking a step towards change as their explosive Netflix documentary is released. The couple have been given the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award.

The award is a prestigious one and given by the former US president’s daughter, Kerry Kennedy - who is a lawyer, author and human rights activist.

Kerry Kennedy, the daughter of Robert F. Kennedy, told Spanish magazine Vanitatis that the couple are being awarded for standing up against racism in their family and community. Their work in racial justice, mental health, and other issues will be highlighted. Along with them, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will also be honoured.

“They went to the oldest institution in U.K. history and told them what they were doing wrong, that they couldn’t have structural racism within the institution; that they could not maintain a misunderstanding about mental health,” said Kennedy, according to People Magazine’s translation.

The first three episodes of the Duke and Duchess of Sussexes’ Netflix documentary painted a bleak picture of life in Harry and Meghan’s world.

But while the following, final three will cover the brutal royal drama that played out as they left the UK, it will end on a lighter note as the couple reflect on the happy, family life they have since created in California, it has been reported.

It will also cover their wedding and the birth of their son, Archie, but as one friend ominously pointed out, “even in happier times, it was challenging”.

Prince Harry and Markle relocated to California, US after withdrawing from their roles as senior royals. After their wedding, Markle faced racism and abuse from the media, she had said.

As senior royals, part of their work was about visiting towns and cities, meeting local people, and being benefactors of charities and organisations working with communities.

During one such visit, which took place a few months before their wedding, the couple had visited Birmingham.

The couple visited Millennium Point, which is home to the science museum and parts of Birmingham University, to join in on an event to celebrate International Women’s Day. They then visited the Nechells Wellbeing Centre to join Birmingham’s Coach Core apprentices as they took part in training masterclass.
