A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and was interviewed by detectives. He has now been released pending further enquiries. In addition, officers seized a grey Mercedes A180, which will now be forensically examined.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The recovery of a vehicle and the arrest of a suspect is clearly a positive step, but our investigation is far from over.

“Our enquiries have led us to identifying from CCTV that a number of people stopped at the scene immediately after the collision. We have spoken to some of these, but we are still missing some witnesses.

“I strongly believe that these witnesses will hold key evidence in our investigation and I would implore those people to get in touch with the investigation team.”
