Luna Springs is playing host to the iconic Digbeth Dining Club. It’s back here in Digbeth - where it all started - for a short time only with the last days on Friday and Saturday (November 11 and 12).

This special event is bringing together some of the best street food vendors from across the West Midlands - and BirminghamWorld is going to take one for the team and sample everything that’s on offer.

But first here’s a bit more background as to why this event is so special. The award winning Digbeth Dining Club launche in Digbeth in 2012 and over the years became a part of the culinary tapestry of Birmingham, at one point operating three days a week, bringing in thousands of visitors.

Unfortunately the pandemic meant it had to close the doors at its original spot next to Mama Roux, Brooklyn Bar and more under the railway arches behind The Old Crown. But DDC has since opened two new venues, and still do the occasional pop ups in Digbeth, like this one at Luna Springs, much to the delight of foodies across the city.

Over these past weeks Digbeth Dining Club have brought six top vendors here to Luna Springs on Lower Trinity Street.

We have Digbeth Dining Club favourites Beef on the Block, then the new kids on the block from Shard End Bad Boy Wings, The Melting Wheel Pasta from Solihull bringing their Italian style pasta, Kebab Cartel - OG’s on the DDC scene, The Neighbourhood Coop from West Brom bringing a Caribbean twist to friend, and Nuneaton’s very own Urban Cheesecake offering what they call filth and indulgence.

BirminghamWorld video journalist politely offered to try them all out and decided my personal favourite was Beef on the Block - you can see how he got to make this decision in the video at the top of our story.

What is so special about Digbeth Dining Club?

Harry Jenkins, Head of Marketing for Digbeth Dining Club says: “Basically, anything Digbeth Dining Club does, whether that’s in Birmingham or around the Midlands tends to get a really, really good response - a really positive response, whether that’s with young people, families, or even, you know, older people. But Digbeth obviously is where it’s spiritual home.”

Freddie who works for Beef on the Block says: “Well, I think one of the main things to make it good is the source of meat we get. It’s local. So it’s good for the environment.”

Street food fan Aaron says: “I think it represents Birmingham. It’s a culture thing. I mean, I’ve only been here from being at uni but I can say that I love Birmingham and I think this is the heart of Birmingham.”
