The World Cup has kicked off for England. Millions will be watching as the greatest teams battle it out for supremacy on the pitch. I'm here in Birmingham to get fans thoughts on what's ahead over the next few weeks, as well as some of the controversies - and their expectations for England ahead of the match.

High expectations for England this year with a lot of excitement from fans. This year’s world cup is certainly not without controversy though - mostly centred around the choice of host Qatar. Human rights abuses in the country and issues surrounding LGBTQ rights have drawn criticism to the decision.

In the city’s Gay Village numerous bars are declining to show the matches. Birmingham born comedian Joe Lycett has also spoken out and made a £10,000 ultimatum for David Beckham to give up his role as ambassador to the tournament. So what exactly are fans thoughts on the decision for Qatar to host the games?

Jay said: “I think we’re going to win 3-0. Southgate always says about choosing players in form - and he does for the most part. But I feel like he picks the same starting line-up every game. I think there’s some players who deserve to be in the starting line-up today.”
