New statistics collected by Legal Expert have laid bare how few arsonists in the West Midlands face justice for their crimes.
Two Birmingham neighbourhoods were the worst locations for arson in the West Midlands over the past three years, according to police data.
The data, collected by Legal Expert through a Freedom of Information request, also revealed that less than 15% of offences led to an arrest, with just 3% of offenders facing an arson charge.
In total, West Midlands Police logged 4,089 arson offences between January 2022 and December 2024–a tally second only to Greater London.
With 69 arson offences recorded in the area across three years–working out at close to two incidents a month–Birmingham’s Sparkbrook was the worst area for arson across the region.
