The two West Midlands areas named among happiest and healthiest places to retire by The Sunday Times

These are the best places to retire in the West Midland, according to The Times

A new report by The Sunday Times has ranked the happiest and healthiest places to retire in England.

Windsor and Maidenhead (Berkshire) and Hartlepool (North East) were ranked number one and two respectively as the country’s happiest places to retire.

Solihull was ranked number three on the list, with Wolverhampton West coming in at number 4. The Times spoke with local residents in the areas listed, including Solihull resident Lottie Crossley, a 45-year-old PR and mother.

She praised Solihull, telling the newspaper: “It’s the amount of groups going on here, there is so much for people to get involved with, whatever their age,” Crossley says. “Also, it’s easy to get into Birmingham.

“Older people are the ones who visit the museums, who go to the Symphony Hall, who really enjoy that cultural side of life.”

A resident of Wolverhampton West, Linda Aitchson told the Times of her home neighbourhood: “The bit that jumps out for me is the happiness thing. Where I live it’s a beautiful community, in terms of getting out in nature it’s amazing, plus we have a wonderful theatre — the Wolverhampton Grand — and lovely pubs.”
