The stunning inner city canalside lock keeper’s cottage near Aston to be auctioned

A former lock keeper’s cottage in inner city Birmingham will be up for grabs at the end of March

A historic canalside cottage near Aston is set to auctioned on Wednesday (March 30).

The former lock keeper’s cottage at 79 Deykin Avenue in Witton is a grade II-listed building and it will be listed with a guide price of £135,000+ in a livestreamed Bond Wolfe auction.

The detached freehold building on the Tame Valley Canal has three bedrooms, and is being sold with vacant possession.

James Rossiter, an auction valuer at Bond Wolfe, said: “This is a characterful building with frontages onto the canal opposite a lock, and it is accessed via the canal path off Deykin Avenue.

“There are three reception rooms and kitchen on the ground floor, with access to a large, two-roomed cellar.

“Upstairs is a landing leading to three bedrooms and a bathroom, while outside there are side yards and brick built stores with the potential space for off-road parking.”

He added: “The property has gas-fired central heating and could be suitable for conversion to a house of multiple occupation subject to planning permission.”

The auction will take place at 9am on Wednesday 30 March on the Bond Wolfe’s website, with remote bidding by proxy, telephone or internet only.

Let’s take a look inside the cottage.
