The RSPCA in Birmingham and Coventry is looking for people who can adopt the dogs in their care. These dogs were either rescued from difficult circumstances or taken in after being abandoned.
Some have faced cruelty as well. In the past year, there’s been a 27% increase in animal cruelty in the region, according to the RSPCA. In the West Midlands, there were 684 reports of intentional harm against animals made to the RSPCA last year, compared to 537 in 2021 - an increase of 27%.
As a result, the animal charity is bracing for one of its busiest summers this year as it expects another summer of suffering, with more people reporting cruelty to animals from July to September.
When we adopt a dog instead of buying, it also helps the charity make space for others who are in need. With several dozens of dogs up for adoption at the Birmingham Newbrook Farm - people can really have a pick of the pooch that will suit them best.
Whether you are an active person who likes hikes and jogs or someone who want a less fussy and easygoing dog - there’s a pawsome dog for everyone there.
So, if you are in the market to adopt a dog, here are eight of the beauties up for adoption:
1. Sandy
This loving but timid girl is in need of a home who understands the need to gently introduce her into the big wide world. She comes from a multi-animal animal household where she had minimal exposure to the outside world and new experiences. She is a crossbreed of 6-12 months. Due to her timidness RSPCA are looking for Sandy to go home to an all adult only home and will need people around for the majority of the time before gradually learning how to be left for short periods. | RSPCA
2. Lisa
She is a 4-year-old Pug - who is looking for a family. New owners will be expected to have experience with the pug breed and all of the little quirks that come with them. It will need to be a calm and quieter home where she has the time to settle in and feel at home before expecting too much from her. Lisa is to be the only pet in the home as she wants and deserves all of the attention to herself. | RSPCA

3. Dexter
Dexter is a 4-year-old Labrador Retriever crossbreed. He needs a home where he will be the only animal as he is reactive to other dogs and will require ongoing distraction work to help with this. He is available at RSPCA Coventry and District branch. | RSPCA Coventry and District branch
4. Luna
She likes to greet her human pals with a toy in her mouth and the waggiest tail you have ever seen - a sight to warm any heart! She is a 2-year-old Bull Terrier cross. Adopters would find that Luna loves her walks, and in quiet and calm areas can relax and have a great time. The use of secure fields for offlead play would also be fantastic for Luna. | RSPCA Birmingham
