The Hop & Scotch, in Kings Heath, is celebrating yet another triumph, having secured the title of ‘Pub of the Year’ for 2023/2024 from the Birmingham CAMRA. 

This victory marks the second year in a row, with over five years under its belt, this  independent bar and bottle shop, prides itself on its diverse range of keg beers, cask ales, traditional ciders, and a variety of spirits and wines.

The Birmingham CAMRA praised the pub as “amazing” upon declaring it the winner on March 8, edging out two other remarkable local pubs.

The runner-up, The Colmore Tap, is a city centre bar from Thornbridge brewery, previously recognised in CAMRA’s Pub Design Awards for its transformation from a bank. Emulating the style of New York bars, with its marble tables, elegant chandeliers, and intimate nooks, this chic pub is situated on Colmore Row and offers a curated selection of craft beers, select wines, and Milanese-style pizzas. 

In the third spot, the Old Moseley Arms in Balsall Heath stands out as “a fantastic traditional pub also serving amazing curries” Blending the feel of a classic pub with an Indian restaurant, it was previously crowned Birmingham’s ‘Pub of the Year’ in 2013 and 2014.

The team at Hop & Scotch took to social media to celebrate their achievement: “We’ve been voted Birmingham CAMRA Pub of the Year for the second year running!! A big thank you to all who voted for us, and to our loyal customers and friends who have always supported us. We now go through to the next round to fight to retain our West Midlands County Pub of the Year win from last year!”

The competition was stiff, with other contenders for Birmingham’s ‘Pub of the Year’ including the Bull, Craven Arms, Lamp Tavern, Wellington, and The Wildcat Tap.
