The skies over the Midlands lit up on Wednesday night with the first Northern Lights display of 2025.
The awe-inspiring phenomenon, known as the aurora borealis, attracted photographers eager to capture the vibrant, multicoloured lights.
Stunning images of the spectacle were captured over the West Midlands, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Leicestershire.
Recent increases in solar activity have made these displays more frequent, providing more opportunities for people to enjoy this celestial event. The Northern Lights occur when charged particles from the sun collide with gases in the Earth’s atmosphere, creating dazzling displays of colour.
According to the Met Office, the lights can appear in shades of green, pink, red, yellow, blue, and violet. On this occasion, the lights shone brightly in vivid pinks, captured by those who braved the cold night.
