A historic six-bed detached house in Edgbaston was last sold in 1995 for £500,000 and today, it costs more than four times that. The property is believed to have been designed by iconic JJ Bateman and is up for sale for £2,250,000. The Listed Grade II house has three bathrooms and four reception rooms as well.

The 6,437 sq ft (598 sq m) mansion is set within a magnificent south-facing plot of approximately 0.6 acre. 63 Wellington Road is believed to have been built in 1845 and is a Listed Grade II property for its architectural and historical merit. It is thought that the house was designed by the renowned Birmingham architect, JJ Bateman - who designed some of the city’s most iconic civic buildings, including Queen’s Hospital, of the time.

The house has red brick elevations beneath a pitched slate roof and sash windows. It still has some original features such as plaster arches, decorative cornicing, high skirting boards, deep architraves and original fireplaces.

Average house prices fell to £288k in Birmingham in August, according to RightMove. Meanwhile, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the UK average house prices increased by 7.8% over the year to June 2022, down from 12.8% in May 2022.
