Holi 2023: eight photos of the festival of colour celebrated in Birmingham

There are multiple celebrations going ahead in and around Birmingham that you can join in on

Playing with colour powder, bonfire, eating good food, dancing, and indulging in some good old comradarie are part and parcel of the festival of Holi. It’s an annual festival celebrated in South Asian countries to welcome spring season.

In Birmingham, the Indian diaspora celebrates this community event as well. On the day, participants would wish each other “Happy Holi” and smear some colour. It’s a fun-filled festival meant to celebrate a new beginning.

Over the years, Bollywood songs have become a mainstay with the celebrations as people dance together to express their joy. The beginning of spring becomes a carnivalesque celebration when communities bond together.
