Did you know dogs were domesticated some 23,000 years ago and have long been our dear pals? They have held an important role in our lives as friends, protectors, hunting companions and later, as lap warmers.
The goofy and silly canines that are all over our social media accounts make life warmer for many of us. Just like humans, dogs have a variety of personality.
While some dog breeds were created and trained to be fierce some were bred for their gentleness. For instance, the Newfoundland breed (a native North American breed) is one of the oldest dog breeds in existence. They are the ancestors of Labradors and Retrievers. All of them are active, playful and super lovable and might make an appearance at Crufts dog show in Birmingham in March.
Some dogs are perfect for those with an active lifestyle while others are likely to be better for those who are busier and want a dog less likely to need attention.
All dogs need some outdoor time and that is an imperative for their well-being - as it is for humans. It might seem like a lot of work but the best part of having a dog is the unconditional love. And, there are tons of dogs up for adoption in Birmingham. They can be amazing Valentine’s Day gifts as well.
Here are eight breeds of dogs that are sweet and gentle that will make your life sunnier:
