From seafood to beer and everything in between, there is something for everyone to try when visiting a UK city for the first time.
So, what is an absolute food and drink staple that represents your city? We asked our expert journalists across the country to name the dish or drink that’s most synonymous with their area.
Here is our ultimate guide in 13 cities across the UK.

5. Derby - Pyclets
Pyclets are a traditional Derby delicacy, originating from a 160-year-old recipe. Batter is poured onto a hot griddle and the result is a stunning cross between a spongy crumpet and pancake. Its versatility means hungry diners can enjoy it savoury, by heaping on all cheese, vegetables, or anything that’s in your fridge. | arenaphotouk - stock.adobe.com

6. Nottingham - Mushy Peas and Mint Sauce
Mushy peas and mint sauce may be an acquired taste for some, but it has legions of fans in Nottingham and beyond. It’s as simple as a bowl of steaming hot mushy peas topped with a ladle of mint sauce. Carnivores craving a meaty treat can add to the dish to give it even more heft, although a bowl of perfectly seasoned peas on a cold winter’s night can be hard to beat. | Adobe Stock

7. Leeds - Beer
It's hard to pinpoint a food that represents Leeds, but if there's one thing it does well - it's beer. Home to fabulous local breweries, from Kirkstall and Northern Monk to Horsforth and North Brewing Co, there's no shortage of award-winning craft beers across the city. 8. Sheffield - Fishcake
People visiting Sheffield might get a bit of a shock when they order a fishcake from a chippy here. Elsewhere in the country, a 'typical' fishcake is made up of mashed potatoes and miniscule amounts of fish, and fried in breadcrumbs; but in Sheffield they call that a rissole. A fishcake in Sheffield is actually a piece of fish sandwiched between two slices of potato, dipped in batter, and fried. | Adobe Stock
