Albert’s Schloss is one of Birmingham’s household names for a dinner reservation or night out enjoying city life, but did you know they also offer a delicious breakfast? Neither did we, but it certainly did not disappoint.

Located at the heart of the city in Chamberlain Square, trying something new to kickstart 2024 was the ideal Saturday morning. Anyone who has visited Albert’s Schloss knows the interior screams luxury, with an inviting atmosphere and an attention to detail that is second to none.

We started off our morning with a fresh apple juice and cappuccino – and even the hot drink had a heart design on top and biscuit to enjoy on the side.

Firstly, it would have been rude not to try out Albert’s Bakery for a delicious pastry each. With more than a handful of options to choose from the stand, we settled on a cinnamon swirl and pain au chocolat with cherry icing.

Both were fluffy, fresh and good value for money, with the generous portion sizes leaving us partially full before we had laid eyes on the glorious breakfast ‘haus’ plates yet to be served.

With one of us having a sweet tooth and the other savoury, Albert’s Schloss certainly proved they could do both – as we were delighted with what followed.

The pancake haus dish we ordered – of the few sweet and savoury options on the menu – was vanilla berries and cream flavoured. The fluffy pancakes were adorned with plentiful fruit toppings, spanning strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries, and accompanied by a pot of maple syrup.

One of the main downfalls of pancake dishes elsewhere is the lack of toppings, leaving you wanting more. Not the Albert’s Schloss pancake haus. The two-pancake stack was ideal, and would have been enough even without a pastry to begin with.

The signature cook haus breakfast was the other dish we ordered. As we saw many of these carried across the restaurant to different tables as we enjoyed our food, this was evidently a popular choice.

The two Cumberland sausages, smoked back bacon, black pudding, Burford Brown egg, roast portobello mushroom, roast tomato and potato rosti were complete with a side of pain de mie toast.

Again, the portion was filling and it was good to have the opportunity to try something new – a potato rosti. In what can only be described as resembling a mix of a bhaji and a hash brown, the rosti went really well with the accompanying components of the breakfast. Though it would have been nice to have the option of scrambled eggs, what was served was done to perfection.

If there was anything we took away from our visit to Albert’s Schloss, it is that they know how to do both. Despite one of us being a sweet breakfast lover and the other savoury, we both left with full stomachs, smiles on our faces and enjoyed it in equal measure.

Though you may pay more than other breakfast options in Birmingham city centre, at Albert’s Schloss you pay for the experience. The attention to detail and luxury atmosphere is what sets it apart from the rest.

The menu is home to something for everyone and though neither of us are vegetarian, we noticed there were options for those with alternative diets on each part of the menu.

Sat in our lovely window seat watching the world go by, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will be returning again to enjoy the breakfast menu in the future.
