When looking for a "hidden gem" that offers real Portuguese food, Vaz Restaurant, located at 130 Sandon Road in Smethwick, comes highly recommended from Brummies, especially with Portugal being in the Euros 2024.
This restaurant offers a welcoming embrace of flavours and friendliness, bringing a little piece of Portugal to Birmingham.

Hide AdVaz Restaurant’s journey from a cozy café to Birmingham’s best Portuguese dining destination because of the unwavering support of its customers has transformed it into a cherished locale, where the spirit of Portugal is served up with every dish.

The decor is a tasteful blend of traditional and modern, with Portuguese and Cape Verdean elements subtly woven throughout, and flags up for the Euro games.
But, the heart of Vaz lies in its menu, a tribute to traditional Portuguese and Cape Verdean fare. Each recipe is a celebration of fresh, premium ingredients, shipped from Portugal, resulting in dishes that are as flavorful as they are satisfying.

The ambiance at Vaz is as inviting as its menu. The staff’s warmth and attentiveness ensure that every guest feels like part of the family from the moment they arrive. It’s this combination of exceptional service and genuine Portuguese ambiance that has earned Vaz a coveted 5-star rating on Tripadvisor.

So, Birmingham World decided to try two of the restaurant’s best-selling desserts, the Serradura, a beloved treat in Portugal, a layered marvel of whipped cream and crushed biscuits. And then I was pleasantly surprised with the Pastel de Nata, the iconic Portuguese custard tart. This custard tart, with their flaky pastry and rich custard filling, was delicious with each bite.
As I left Vaz, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of community - it’s an experience that encompasses the comfort of the setting, the joy of the service, and the bond of the community. A place where the essence of Portugal is palpable, right in the heart of Birmingham.
Vaz may be a hidden gem, but its reputation for superb cuisine and exceptional service is well-known among those who’ve discovered it.
