This time, they’re serving up "Murder on the Midnight Express", a six-course tasting menu that’s as dramatic as an Agatha Christie novel and as delicious as… well, everything Six by Nico does.

From the second you step inside, the whole place feels like a vintage crime novel - train conductor welcoming you on the door, moody lighting, subtle Art Deco vibes, and a menu that reads like a case file. But here’s the best part: your table is the crime scene, and each course is a clue.

Now I’m not going to give anything away (no spoilers here!), so let’s focus on the unbelievably delicious food.

Course 1: "Crime Scene" A murderously good start - Goat’s Cheese Mousseline with salted & pickled raspberry and heirloom beetroot. Creamy, tangy, and suspiciously tasty.

Course 2: "Room 36" Smoked Ham Hough Terrine, Pork Blanquette, tarragon oil, and Vegetables à la Grecque. It’s rich, smoky, and perfectly balanced with those veggies. Almost too good to be innocent…

Course 3: "The Restaurant" A dreamy little Tartiflette moment - Pommes Anna, smoked bacon jam, and Comté Royale. Basically, the ultimate comfort food with a fancy French twist.

Course 4: "Oyster Bar" Poached sole with burnt apple, cauliflower purée, and tartare sauce. Delicate, yet packed with bold flavours. (Also, you can upgrade with crispy oysters & garlic emulsion for an extra £9… worth it? YES.)

Course 5: "Engine Room" Chicken Ballotine, Jerusalem artichoke, charcoal emulsion, and truffle café au lait. Smoky, truffly, and downright decadent. Feeling fancy? Add Brie de Meaux with spiced date cake & hot truffle honey for £8.

Course 6: "Coffee Lounge" Tiramisu, chocolate cremeux, warm vanilla espuma, and coffee sponge. The perfect sweet ending to a thrilling meal - like the final chapter of a great whodunnit.

You can pair your meal with matching cocktails (£40) or wine (£30), and there are some tasty snack options too (think: Chicken Liver Parfait or Blue Cheese Parfait with sourdough).

Honestly? This isn’t just a dinner—it’s an experience. Every course is a plot twist, every bite adds to the mystery, and the whole thing is just SO well thought out.

The experience is wonderfully interactive with steaming bottles, food delivered in exciting ways, a bullet for a clue and the food offering up more hints as you go.

Our server was amazing, she didn’t give anything away but checked in our theories and was extremely attentive despite a busy restaurant.

The lovely thing about Six By Nico on Colmore Row is the attention to details, not just in the food, the tastes and the wine pairing but the attitude and attentiveness of the staff, who go above-and-beyond to make sure you are enjoying yourself.

The prices are fine-dining but affordable prices, the six-course tasting menu is £44 per person.

My dining partner said: “SBN must now be one of the finest dining experiences in the West Midlands - and it is the attention to detail which really sets it apart.

“While the food is on another level; it’s the little things that elevate this to a joyous night of entertainment. Truly attentive staff who are fully engaged with the dining experience; welcoming you back like old friends, while setting the scene for an incredible experience.

“A train guard welcomes you to the restaurant and sets the tone for the night, while evidence packs are delivered amongst your food and drinks to help you crack the case. Some may find this overwhelming, but it is done in such a classy and fun way, it added so much to the night.

“But what truly keeps me coming back for more is the innovative flavour pairings (goats cheese and raspberry and brie, date and hot honey just two of the standouts on this menu) and things you wouldn’t necessarily think about, like adding two crispy oysters to a poached sole fish course. Exquisite.”

We are huge Six By Nico fans - and can’t wait to go back.

Cooking from Jan 27 - Mar 09… so book your ticket before it’s too late!
