The Stirchley neighbourhood in south Birmingham was named as the best place to live in the Midlands by The Sunday Times last month.
Taking everything into account from amenities, green spaces and community spirit, the trendy Stirchley suburb came out on top.
Even previously, the Birmingham neighbourhood had won a host of accolades. It was named one of the coolest places to live in the whole country by international travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller and Time Out Magazine in 2023.
Stirchley is also home to a number of brilliant independent bars that have received high praise. That’s why we’ve decided to take a look to see how these bars and pubs rank according to customers on Google reviews.

1. Couch Stirchley, Pershore Road
Couch has been voted one of the best 20 bars in the world by The Telegraph. The neighbourhood cocktail bar is the place to be if you're on a night out in the suburb. They are known for their unique cocktails and also have a number of pop up events from other drinks companies from time to time. Couch has a 4.9 rating on Google reviews from 262 reviews.
2. Bar Ikigai, Pershore Road
If you’re looking for the perfect spot to sip on delish Japanese-inspired cocktails and chill with your favourite person, then Bar Ikigai is the place for you. Hidden away in a cosy loft space, its super laid back vibe is perfect for a catch up and a tipple. The venue has a 4.9 Google rating from 114 reviews. One read: "This is a place with nice decor, low music and a relaxed atmosphere."
3. Birmingham Brewing Company, Hazelwood Road
The Birmingham Brewing Co has its taproom in the heart of Stirchley. They have a greatg range of beers and ales, as well as natural wine, locally sourced cider, spirits and soft drinks. The taproom has a 4.8 google rating from 158 reviews. (Paul Harwood, founder of the company is pictured)
4. Anjuna Lounge, Hazelwell Street
As well as a lovely coffee shop, Anjuna Lounge also has a brilliant selection of cocktails, beers and Indian street food. It has a 4.8 rating on Google reviews from 98 reviews at the moment. One review read: "Lovely place, tasty food, amazing cocktails, friendly welcoming staff."
