Birmingham weather for May Bank holiday 2022: what is the Met Office forecast for May Day weekend?

April is almost over, and with the start of the new month comes yet another bank holiday weekend in England.

The main hope will be for good weather, as many across the city will likely have outdoor plans in mind.

When is the next bank holiday weekend?

The next bank holiday weekend in the UK takes place at the end of April and early May.

The weekend starts on Saturday, 30 April and ends on Monday, 2 May which is the next bank holiday Monday.

The next bank holiday after this will be the 2 and 3 June double header holiday for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

What will the weather be like for the bank holiday weekend?

Cooler temperatures have been predicted for the coming weekend by the Met Office. Here’s the outlook for the bank holiday weekend, starting on Friday.

Friday 29 April

Friday looks set to be cloudy for most of the morning, but the sun should get out during the afternoon, with a high temperature of 13°C expected for much of the city.

This will translate to a ‘feels like’ temperature high of 12°C and low of 7°C

The evening into night will see ‘feels like’  temperatures drop to 4/5°C due mainly to the clearer sky.

Saturday 30 April

Saturday will a sunny start, but by mid morning much of the sunshine may be covered by cloud.

There will be a high of 15°C through the day and a very gentle breeze of no more than 8mph shouldn’t have too much of an impact on the temperature.

The cloud will remain throughout the night, and temperatures will drop to around 5°C overnight

Sunday 1 May

The day before bank holiday Monday will have a damp start, but any showers should clear by the afternoon.

Sunday evening will have a slightly milder feel to it, with temperatures set to remain in double figures until at least 10pm.

Monday 2 May

More cloud will greet us on Monday morning, and this could give the bank hliday Monday a very dark feel to it.

A high of 14°C may give the afternoon a slightly muggy feel, and the ‘feels like’ temperature may not drop into single figures until after 4pm.

The cloud will remain into the evening, with temperatures remaining in the region of 5/6°C.

What has the Met Office said for the week ahead? 

The Met Office has published their outlook for the week leading up to the bank holiday weekend, which looks as though it could be very similar to the weekend itself.

Below is the Met Office outlook for the West Midlands from today (28 April) through to Monday, 2 May

Today:

After a chilly start, it will be fine and dry for many. Often cloudy, but there will be some bright or sunny spells developing, most likely across the west. Feeling chilly under the cloud but pleasant where the sun shines. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Tonight:

Cloud clearing through the evening and overnight, leading to starry skies for most. Turning chilly, with a slight frost in the countryside. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Friday:

A bright but chilly start to the morning. Then a fine day head with plenty of sunny spells. Perhaps cloudier at times in the east. Feeling warmer. Maximum temperature 16 °C.

Saturday will be dry, with plenty of warm sunny spells. Cloudier on Sunday with perhaps a little drizzle. Brighter once more for Bank Holiday Monday with the odd shower.
