Brummie food fans have voiced their opinion after a national newspaper named a chain restaurant as the best place for breakfast in the city.

In a list of 32 best cafés and restaurants for breakfast, The Guardian mentioned just one spot in Birmingham - Turtle Bay.

At no. 9 on the list, Turtle Bay was described as: “Soak up the limitless prosecco and cocktails with Caribbean specials, such as scrambled ackee and sweet-fried plantain or a soft bara roti stack with fried chicken at Turtle Bay Brindley Place’s bottomless brunch.”

Chain restaurant Turtle Bay opened its second venue in Brindleyplace recently after its success in Birmingham city centre. It has 50 locations all over the country and Brummies were not pleased that local and independent favourites were left out.

Here is what people had to say about it:

One person wrote: “Clearly this person has never been to Brum (or most of the cities she’s writing about).” Another added: “No-one can say whether this is true or not, because who would go to Turtle Bay for breakfast in the first place to find out?”

One commenter said: “Don’t need to read the comments to know I’m echoing ‘It’s a big fat NO’, and that’s just guesswork because I’ve never had breakfast there and never would with so many more reknowned options in the vicinity.”

Even on Twitter, frustrated Birmingham residents spoke out against The Guardian’s choice of breakfast place from Birmingham.

One person on Twitter wrote: “the fact that the only brunch place listed in the midlands is a TURTLE BAY in BIRMINGHAM is outrageous.” Another added: “With no disrespect to Turtle Bay, there are so many awesome independent places to go for an awesome breakfast in Birmingham @YorksCafe at the top of my list”
