Ever since the inception of Digbeth Dining Club over a decade aog it's been a much loved part of Birmingham's culinary scene. It's branched out over the years and I'm here at Hockley Social Club to indulge in the wide range of food on offer.

Jack Brabant, Co-founder of Hockley Social Club says: “So Hockley Social Club is a venue that came out of the ashes of Digbeth Dining Club. We couldn't go back to Digbeth after Covid and we'd taken this space prior to that.

"We wanted to carry on doing street food but we also wanted to create something new. Whereas Digbeth Dining Club was all about the street food, we wanted to create something that was all about extenuating and celebrating the culture of the city.”

Situated in a former printing factory on an old industrial estate, Hockley Social Club has blossomed into what the community here affectionately call an urban oasis.

The food can be taken as the centrepiece of the evening or to complement the entertainment - with everything from live music to comedy and even conferences on hot-button topics.

The vibe is mature yet casual, offering a unique platform for the vendors here. Unashamedly taking advantage of the perks of the job, the vendors each cooked me up a dish to try myself.

Greidy’s Wings & Strips made me their signature dish of jerk friend strips with honey soy fries. Patty Freaks fried up a Dirty South smash burger with all the trimmings.

Dai Pai Dong cooked me up their version of a Hainanese Chicken Rice based on Singapore's national dish, offering a mixture of sweetness, spiciness and tanginess. Fireaway Grill offered up turkey shawarma, lamb and chicken served up with fries, their homemade sauces, pickled slaw and fresh salad.

No complaints from me with any of these masterpieces. You can tell that every meal was made with passion. It was well worth calling a cheat day and surrendering myself to each delicious dish. There's a perfect mix here from the aromatic and exotic to the comforting and indulgent. Based on my trip tonight, Hockley Social Club has certainly earned its fixture as a premier destination in Birmingham's nightlife and dining scene.
