This Birmingham restaurant has been named among the UK’s very best

The best restaurants in the UK have been revealed in at the prestigious National Restaurant Awards (NRAs).

The awards were held last night (June 10) at Magazine London, and celebrate the brilliance and vibrancy of the UK’s eating out scene, and reward the very best chefs, front of house staff and restaurants the country has to offer.

On the night of the awards, the NRAs 100 best restaurants in the UK was revealed – as voted for by an academy of chefs, restaurateurs and food writers – as well as present a series of special awards, culminating in the unveiling of the National Restaurant of the Year.

The Ledbury in Notting Hill has been crowned the UK’s best restaurant at the prestigious National Restaurant Awards (NRAs). Mountain in Soho, London was second, with Restaurant Moor Hill in Aughton coming third on the list.

Aktar Islam is a multiple award-winning English Michelin starred chef, restaurateur and entrepreneur.

Which Birmingham restaurant was included?

Opheem Indian restaurant in Birmingham city centre was named the 8th best UK restaurant at the National Restaurant Awards last night - just two months after the Summer Row venue also became Birmingham's first ever two Michelin star restaurant.

Speaking about Opheem, the NRAs said: “Aktar Islam’s high-reaching Indian restaurant is about as far from a bog-standard curry house as you can imagine.”

“With a minimalist kitchen that looks more like that of a Spanish three-star than an Indian restaurant, Islam’s Jewellery Quarter flagship Opheem is an entirely different proposition to any other Indian restaurant in the UK.”
