Broad Street is the new home of the iconic nightclub Snobs. Originally domiciled near Paradise Circus before moving to Smallbrook Queensway in 2014, it is now relaunching here in Westside - I'm here to have a look at what revellers can expect.

Wayne Tracey, owner of Snobs, says: “Everything's been really positive about the move. Obviously, the old venue was under threat of redevelopment but I'm really excited to come to Broad Street and all the customers and everyone's been really positive about our move.”

Back in November, Snobs announced it would be moving home following the announcement of plans to demolish the Ringway Centre to make way for flats. The nightclub boasting a lifespan of more than 50 years here in Birmingham will now continue its legacy on Broad Street - offering an opportunity to improve on what made it such a mainstay of the city's nightlife.

Snobs owner reassures fans that 'grassroots Snobs is still the same'

Wayne says: “The new place has evolved a lot and the way the fit-out has been done. Everything has to move on, so it's all the new technology. But the grassroots at Snobs still stay the same. The indie on the ground floor, the student nights, so everything else stays the same but the new venue has evolved.”

The last few years has seen the hospitality industry struggle under the weight of the cost of living crisis. The secret to success is a tricky one but Snobs believes that simplicity is key to ensure things keep moving.

Wayne says: “Yeah, it has been difficult, very difficult for the hospitality industry. All that Snobs tries to do is just deliver a good and a safe night, and that's all we can try and do to guarantee that people come in, but if we carry on doing exactly what Snobbs is, hopefully people will enjoy it.”

Snobs' previous location which it held for almost ten years on Smallbrook Queensway is well known to revellers. We can expect fans of the old venue will make a small change to their travel plans - should Snobs retain its well known vibe - but its presence here on Broad Street may also attract new revellers who'll get to experience it for the first time.

Wayne says: “I would like to think that some of the customers that wouldn't have come to Snobs and the passing trade will come in and try us, and hopefully they enjoy what they see, and as I say, one thing for Snobs is it's always been trying to give them a safe environment to have a good night and a safe night.”

Despite many delays in getting the nightclub back to it's former glory, with building works still present and expected to continue for the next few weeks, the launch event was an undeniable success and laid the groundwork for a strong future for a nightclub that is synonymous with Birmingham nightlife.

Wayne says: “They've received it really well. I think people are really shocked at how much the venue has changed from what it was, and everyone seems to enjoy what we've done with it and the space.”
