The Himalaya Restaurant, nestled at 1716-1718 Bristol Road South in Longbridge, has been a cornerstone of the community for five decades.
First established in 1974 by the late Mr. Asab Ali, the restaurant began as a modest leasehold property, offering the local community a taste of classic Indian cuisine.

The early years were not without challenges. Asab Ali faced legal battles and disputes with large developers that threatened the very existence of his restaurant. Despite his best efforts, the property was eventually lost, and the original location gave way to a McDonald's.

However, fortune smiled amidst the turmoil. By coincidence, a property across the road became available just as the business was at risk of closure. With unwavering determination, Asab Ali and his family seized the opportunity to purchase the property, ensuring that The Himalaya Restaurant could continue serving its loyal patrons.
The Himalaya’s success was built on the back of hard work and family unity. Asab Ali, who sadly passed away in 2012, dedicated himself to the restaurant, working seven days a week to provide for his family. His wife and children were integral to the business, supporting both in the kitchen and the front of house during turbulent times.

From weathering economic challenges like the Land Rover factory closure to navigating recessions and rising costs in recent years, The Himalaya Restaurant has remained steadfast.
This year marks a significant milestone as The Himalaya Restaurant celebrates 50 years in business. The legacy of Asab Ali continues under the stewardship of his children, Rina Begum and Showpon Ahmed, along with the third generation of the family, who now lend a hand in the thriving business.
The restaurant has also undergone expansion, offering an even more welcoming space for its loyal patrons, many of whom have been visiting since they were children. Today, they bring their own families, sharing the tradition and flavours that have made The Himalaya a beloved institution.

The Ali family pays tribute to the late Asab Ali, whose passion, pride, and hard work laid the foundation for their enduring success. His dedication to high food standards, culinary excellence, and community connection continues to inspire them.
