Birmingham food hygiene: The 38 establishments in Birmingham handed a one star rating in 2024

A number of eateries in Birmingham have received a lowly one star hygiene rating following their most recent inspections by the Food Standards Agency.

The rating reflects the standards of food hygiene found on the date of the inspection by the local authority.

It is not a guide to food quality but based on a variety of different components, such as how food is handled in preparation, cooking, reheating and storage.

Inspectors also look at the cleanliness, layout and structure of the building when it comes to lighting, ventilation and how it is managed. A 5-star rating means hygiene standards are very good, while 0 means urgent improvement is required. One stars mean major improvement is necessary.

Venues are marked on a number of factors, including the handling of food, how food is stored, how food is prepared, cleanliness of facilities and how food safety is managed. Earlier this month we listed the 20 Birmingham venues with zero star ratings which you can see here: Zero star Birmingham ratings.
