Sabai Sabai is celebrating 20 years of service. It first opened its doors in Moseley and has since expanded, offering its authentic Thai offerings at five separate restaurants in and around Birmingham. I'm here to uncover the secrets behind their success over the years.

Torquil Chidwick, co-owner of Sabai Sabai, says: “I think the secret to Sabai Sabai’s success comes down to dedication and attention to detail - and just always striving to make sure that everything is as good as we can do it.

“Also we've spent a lot of time trying to make sure the food is of a decent quality and the chefs are trained well so everyone comes to Sabai Sabai to enjoy the food and the style of Thai food we do. It felt like a big achievement for me because I didn't think I'd be in it for this long”

The commitment to quality is evident in the Pad Thai served up for me at Sabai Sabai, offering an authenticity appreciated in a city with a taste for exotic cuisine. This quality, honed over two decades, is a testament to the dedication of Torquil and Juree who oversaw the business reach heights even they couldn't imagine.

Juree Chidwick, co-owner of Sabai Sabai says: “It felt like a big achievement for me because I didn't think I'd be in it for this long to be honest but then again 20 years gone really quickly and I've been very pleased at the progress and the outcome we've built with our business.”

Celebrating 20 years in business, Sabai Sabai has expanded and received numerous accolades in a challenging hospitality industry. This year marks a significant achievement worth celebrating.

Torquil adds: “So to celebrate we're going to have an anniversary menu which everyone can enjoy - and mainly it's from our restaurant in Moseley, so we'll kind of be focusing the area on that.

“But we're going to have like a couple of little celebration parties and make sure everyone is aware that we've been in Birmingham city, and we have only kind of stayed within Birmingham, and that's where the hometown is - Birmingham - and that's what we want to celebrate as well so the people of Birmingham can enjoy what we're still offering today.”

Juree adds: “Yeah hopefully we can keep going for another 20 years - if we have the energy to!”

Despite the many struggles faced by the hospitality over recent years, this family run chain of restaurants proves that it is still possible to grow and build a lasting legacy. Sabai Sabai is a prime example of Birmingham's diversity and perseverance.
