Birmingham Brewing Company has already made a name for itself for its vegan and gluten free beer, and now their gin called the Brummie Gin is set to do the same for its great taste.

This gin was born from beer having been distilled from the mash of their Pale Brummie brews. And, BirminghamWorld got a taste of the gin at Ask Italian recently.

The restaurant sits on the corner of New Street and Bennetts Hill, and is easily accessible via train, tram and bus. When we entered the brightly lit restaurant decorated in modern floral decor, we were greeted by friendly staff who took us to a long table for a social meal.

I picked a lemon drop spritz - which included a blend of Birmingham Brewing Company’s Brummie Gin, sparkling San Pellegrino Limonata and Prosecco - as the choice of cocktail.

The tangy and fresh tasting blend makes for a perfect cocktail for a brunch, but went well with the sharing starters like Italian Olives, Rosemary & Olive Oil Bread, Lemon Chips, Chili Jam, and Folded Garlic Bread as well.

As the conversation roared on, the friendly staff at the restaurant brought rounds of food enough for a feast. For the mains, I had another Birmingham Brewing Co creation - an Elderflower G&T - servied with a gorgeous dishm of Purple Pesto Genovese Frilly Tagliatelle - and the pairing was incredible.

The herby flavour of the gin created a perfect balance with the veggie pasta dish which was topped with pine nuts and a purple basil pesto.

Whether it was the gin or the food, I went home satiated and slightly buzzed creating a happy memory of a meal shared with new acquaintances.
