Schooners is the passion project of John-Paul McCaughey, James McLaughlin, and Neil Corcoran. The business began life as a mobile bar, with bookings at festivals and parties, but the onset of Covid in 2020 obliterated trading opportunities and the group had to rethink their business plan. In April they took on the lease of a small, dilapidated premises on York Road and replenished it, fitting new electrics, plumbing – the works. 2. Hop & Scotch, Kings Heath
This micropub off Kings Heath High Street was named as one of Birmingham's three Pub's of the Year 2023 by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) guide. The pub on Institute Road combines good beer, cider and perry with a good community spirit. It is an independent bar and bottle shop serving quality real ales and craft beers and offer a rotating selection of cask, keg, and bottles from some of the best beer and cider producers around. The Juke in Kings heath opened its doors in 2018 and has become one of the most popular bars in the area. The bespoke craft beer bar also has a rare, retro Jukebox. The Old Moseley Arms is a traditional beautiful back street pub that's hid away in Balsall Heath. the venue specialises in Indian food and have a tandoori clay oven on 7 days a week. The venue has many original features in a multi room layout. It has a cosy interior and good sized courtyard garden.
