How would you feel about getting away from the hustle and bustle of Birmingham city life and kick off the new year with a chance for a pamper? There are plenty of great spas around the West Midlands, but one in particular has just received national recognition.

Located in neighbouring Worcestershire, Dormy House Spa, in Broadway, has been named as the sixth best spa in the UK by Conde Nast Traveller. Located around an hour’s drive from Birmingham, the spa was named amongst others from places such as Cornwall, Bath and Hampshire.

The magazine had plenty of positives to say about the spa. Here is what they made of the visit to this particular corner of Worcestershire.

They wrote: “After a £10 million renovation, this super-swish 17th-century farmhouse hotel now has 40 rooms individually designed in splendid colours by Todhunter Earle (also responsible for Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire). There’s a little gym near the main bedrooms that’s just for guests, which is a nice touch, and means that in theory you can go for a treadmill run at midnight.

“But you won’t, because The Garden Room has fantastic food made with local ingredients (try the green-apple soufflé) and The Potting Shed next door is a cosy bar with a sizeable drinks list. Never mind: soak out your excesses in the warm indoor infinity pool, the even warmer outdoor hot tub, the salt steam room, or lavender and juniper saunas.”

Their description of the massages you can get at the spa sounds heavenly. They added: “The soothing therapies include a truffle facial and are designed by Temple Spa, a niche brand based in West Sussex that uses only natural ingredients.

“The Silent Night Sleep Treatment, with lavender and chamomile oils, pressure-point facial and back massage, will get you purring. But it’s the charming staff and the extras that make this place special: the Champagne Nail Parlour, the log fires, sun terraces, pre-treatment juices and post-massage snacks.”

If your idea of relaxing doesn’t involve massages and a soak in a hot tub and you’re looking for something more thrilling, then Dormy House may also have you covered. The spa offers a range of activity days including hovercraft flights and clay pigeon shooting. These can also be looked at through the Dormy House website.
