Disney+ The Ballad of Renegade Nell: Who is Adrian Lester, Trigger Point star cast in Disney+ original series

Disney+ has announced the cast for the new UK original adventure series ‘The Ballad of Renegade Nell’ and it includes Birmingham-born actor Adrian Lester.

The show, described by Disney+ as a ‘swashbuckling new action and fantasy adventure series’, comes from BAFTA-award-winning writer and executive producer Sally Wainwright.

It’s all about a quick-witted and courageous young woman called Nell Jackson who finds herself framed for murder before becoming the most notorious highwaywoman in 18th Century England.

Adrian Lester plays the role of The Earl of Poynton – Nell’s formidable adversary described as a master political schemer and manipulator. The show will run for eight episodes and each one will be  45 minutes long.

Who is Adrian Lester?

Adrian Lester is a 52-year-old British actor, writer and director from Birmingham who started his career by playing roles in an array of productions in London’s West End.

Lester is the son of Jamaican immigrants, Monica a medical secretary, and Reginald, a manager for a contract cleaning company.

As a child, aged 9, Lester sang in a choir at St Chad’s Cathedral in Birmingham. He headed to London for three years of training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, and remained there to begin his professional theatrical career.

He is the recipient of a Laurence Olivier Award, a Critics’ Circle Theatre Award and an Evening Standard Theatre Award for his work on stage.

Lester has also been in dozens of films and television shows, including ‘Trigger Point’, ‘Merlin’, ‘Hustle’, ‘Spider-Man 3’, ‘The Day After Tomorrow’, and ‘Doomsday’.
